Dont let this handy kitchen tool just sit in your cupboard. Bamboo steamers have many kitchen applications. The fruits and vegetables you steam in a bamboo steamer will retain their nutrients better than boiling. And you can serve the food right in the bamboo steamer. The wonder of a bamboo steamer is that condensation will not accumulate on the lid or the basket above. You can stack up to 5 layers of bamboo steamer boxes. Just place the food that needs the most steam heat in the bottom basket and the food that will cook with the least heat from the steam in the top basket. Dedicate one steamer for foods that may leave an odor in the bamboo which may transfer to other foods.
Clean up is easy when you line the bottom of each steamer basket with parchment paper, any edible stiff green leaf like kale or banana leaves, and even the Pure Joy Nut Milk / Seed Sprouting Bag. If you do not line the bottom of the bamboo steamer, food may stick and make cleaning hard. All you should have to do is rinse the basket after use. Do not use soap on the basket since the soap may be hard to get out of the bamboo. The key is to prevent the food from sticking so you do not have to work hard to clean it. parchment paper, kale and banana leaves are recommended if you steam sticky foods like pot stickers. Pot stickers have that name for a reason. The Pure Joy Nut Milk / Seed Sprouting Bag is great for quickly steaming vegetables.
After you line the bottom of each bamboo steamer basket, place the food you wish to steam on top. Fill a wok or wok shaped pan with water so the water does not touch the bottom of the bamboo steamer when it is placed in the pan. Bring the water to a calm simmer with the bamboo steamer placed in the wok/pan. Check the food periodically to see if it is done and to make sure the pan does not loose all of the water. You do not want to burn your pan and the steaming process will stop if the pan runs out of water. Have fun experimenting with different foods in your bamboo steamer.
