Type 2 Diabetes is significantly improved when a person follows a low fat vegan diet as apposed to a traditional American diet. A low fat vegan diet is even better than the American Diabetes Associations recommended diet. Research has proven that 43 percent of people in one study no longer needed medication to control their diabetes when they followed a low fat vegan diet. This research also showed an improvement in their weight and cholesterol levels.
The vegan diet has been shown to be more effective for diabetes then the American Diabetes Associations (ADA) recommended diet for diabetics. A vegan diet is a stricter diet then the ADA diet. Keep in mind the ADA diet is the minimum requirements a person with diabetes should follow. Following a low fat vegan diet is a step better for your heart, kidney, and all over general health.
All diabetics should control their weight. A low fat vegan diet promotes weight loss or weight maintenance. Diabetics are more prone to heart disease and by omitting all sources of animal meat, milk and cheeses you will significantly be reducing a major source of cholesterol. A vegan diet also provides you with the slow release sugars found naturally in fruits and vegetables. Meats are not only a high source of fat, but they contain no fiber or sugars. The body needs those slow release sugars to maintain energy through the day.
Why should we refrain from feeding our children animal milk? Type 1 diabetes is a major reason. Cows milk has been found to be a contributor to childhood diabetes. Type 1 diabetes often is an autoimmune reaction to cows milk. Since this type 1 or childhood diabetes is not curable, then prevention would be the wise action. Avoid feeding your child the rich American diet of milk and cheese. A low fat vegan diet will benefit children in many ways. It will not only prevent childhood diabetes, it will grow a healthy child. Children raised on a vegan diet get all the calcium for strong bones and protein for muscle development they need from the fruits, vegetables and beans they eat in a vegan diet. American children are not under nourished they are over nourished and over fed a diet of high fat and empty calories. The same is true for the average American adult.
Studies have shown with the increase in obesity in the American people there has been an increase in type 2 diabetes. All Americans know what we eat has a big effect on our bodies. So why do we kid ourselves and continue to eat a high fat, over processed diet. All diabetics who are not already vegan should try an experiment and eat a low fat vegan diet for at least 1 month. Test your blood as you do, log down your results and keep in touch with your doctor. You may find eating a low fat vegan diet is better for you than taking medicine in controlling your diabetes.
