The Biosta Miracle Sprouter is easy to use and easy to clean. The best thing about the Biosta Sprouter, is you can sprout seeds like alfalfa, broccoli, radish and wheatgrass seeds in stages so you will always have a fresh batch of sprouts ready any time of the year. Or your can grow 3 different kinds of seeds at one time. These seeds should be quick germinating seeds that will break through their shell with in a couple of days.
First make sure your Biosta Sprouter has a siphon cap for each Biosta tray. Do not line the siphon caps above each other when you stack your trays. To ensure even watering the Biosta Sprouter must be level. This will prevent water from pooling on one side.
Do not put too many seeds in your sprouter. You want a thin layer of seeds because the seeds swell. When they swell and grow they require more space to grow. Miracle Exclusives recommends you put 3 tablespoons of large seeds such as mung beans or wheatgrass seeds per tray. Use 1 tablespoon of small seeds per tray such as alfalfa, cres or mustard.
First assemble the Biosta Sprouter by placing the siphon caps on the drain tubes. First add about 2 cups of water to the top tray to make sure the siphons are draining to the next lower lever. If the water does not drain to the next level you may need to adjust the siphon cap to allow the water to flow. When you know all drain tubes are draining, pour the water out of the drainage basin. Now put the desired seeds in each tray, stack the trays on top of each other and slowly pour 2 cups of lukewarm water into the top tray. Do not pour too fast you do not want the seeds in the top tray to flow to one side of the tray. If the seeds are not distributed evenly, push them around to even them out.
Large seeds like Wheatgrass and Mung Beans should be watered every day. Small seeds like alfalfa, cress, radish, and mustard need less water at first. These seeds you should water on the first day, then do not water them for 2 days. On the fourth day start watering them once every day until you are ready to eat them. After 15 to 30 minutes empty the water that is in the drainage basin. This water is excellent for watering house plants and any plants in your yard. After the seeds have sprouted, you can water the sprouts with more water then 2 cups. Extra water at watering time will clean any residue off leaving the sprouts fresh and clean and will prevent any strong odor from developing. Just be sure to empty the drainage basin after each 2 cups of water has drained to the bottom and water your sprouts no more than once a day.
After each tray has drained down into the drainage basin there will be 1 to 2 tablespoons of water in each tray that has coated the seeds. This is the amount of water that is required to germinate your seeds. Too much water will hinder the germination and may cause the seeds to rot. So it is important the water flows through the siphons. The water that remains will create a humid environment which you will see as condensations on the inside of the Biosta Sprouter. Occasionally real small seeds may block the flow of water through the siphon and drain tube and you may have to clear these seeds away.
Your sprouts will be ready to eat in 2 to 5 days. The size of the seeds, room temperature and the intensity of light on your seeds will affect how long it takes your seeds to mature to harvestable size. You should avoid direct sunlight, but a room temperature that is comfortable for you along with indirect sunlight, your seeds will sprout quickly.
It is recommended you rinse the grown sprouts with plenty of water before eating them. Sprouts can be stored in the refrigerator for several days. Rinse refrigerated sprouts daily to keep them fresh.
Just a note on the water you use. If your tap water contains a lot of chlorine, it is recommended you either draw hot water and let it cool before using or fill a container of water the day before and let it sit with out a cap or lid on to let the chlorine to escape. It is best if the water you use in your sprouter is slightly warm. It is best at room temperature or slightly warmer, but not colder than room temperature.
It is important you clean your sprouter after each batch. You want to grow your seeds in a clean environment. Use dish detergent and a soft wash rag to wash your sprouter. Never use anything that is abrasive that will scratch the trays. You may also rinse your sprouter in water that has a little bleach in it. This will kill any bacteria. If you do use bleach water, make sure you rinse it well to get all of the bleach off of all parts before growing your next batch.
